Battery storage expands Perlen Industrieholding AG’s industrial site into an energy hub

wattss Group responsible for overall project management of 10 MW battery storage at Perlen industrial site

Frauenfeld, August 17, 2026 – The wattss Group is taking over the overall project management for a battery storage system with 10 MW of power and 20 MWh of storage capacity at the industrial site in Perlen. The client is BESS Perlen AG, a joint venture between Perlen Industrieholding AG and the Valyou investment foundation. The storage system is supplied by ADS-TEC Energy. Commissioning is planned for the end of 2026.

The wattss Group supports the project throughout its entire lifecycle: from project development and technical integration into the existing infrastructure of the site to the energy market commercialization of the storage system. This consolidates the interfaces between the site, grid connection, technology supplier, and energy markets under one responsibility. From wattss’ perspective, this is precisely the decisive success factor for large-scale storage projects: technology, industrial site, financing, and commercialization must be considered together from the outset.

The storage system is being built on the premises of Perlen Papier AG, a subsidiary of Perlen Industrieholding AG, and will be integrated into the site’s existing infrastructure. The industrial site is thus being expanded with an energy-economic component and is gradually developing into an energy hub. Industrial sites are therefore not only used as production facilities but become active participants in the energy system.

In a first phase, the flexibility will be commercialized via the balancing energy markets. In the future, further commercialization options in day-ahead and intraday trading are planned. The storage system thus contributes to grid stability in the region and generates additional revenue for the site.

The project combines four roles: BESS Perlen AG as investor and operator, Perlen Industrieholding AG as site provider, ADS-TEC Energy as technology supplier, and the wattss Group as overall project manager and partner for market integration. For wattss, Perlen is a reference project demonstrating how institutional capital, attractive industrial sites, and modern storage technology can be combined to create sustainable infrastructure assets.

With the realization in Perlen, the wattss Group continues its growth trajectory in the industrial large-scale storage segment and further expands its position as a partner for project development, implementation, and market integration in Switzerland and Europe.

Marco Rüegg, CEO of wattss Group:
“Large-scale storage projects like the one in Perlen show the potential that lies in combining industry and the energy market. It is crucial to consider technology, industrial site, financing, and commercialization together from the very beginning.”

Dr. Florian Geiger, CEO of Perlen Industrieholding AG and Perlen Papier AG:
“With the battery storage system, we are consistently developing our industrial site into a modern energy hub and unlocking new value creation potential. Energy thus becomes an additional economic building block of our site.”

Yonten Wagma, Managing Director of the Valyou Investment Foundation:
“This project demonstrates how institutional capital, attractive industrial sites, and innovative energy technologies can jointly create sustainable and attractive infrastructure assets.”

Michael Rudloff, COO of ADS-TEC Energy:
“Battery storage creates economic flexibility. It enables companies to store electricity strategically, commercialize it intelligently, and at the same time make an important contribution to a stable energy system.”
